Elizabeth “Betsy” MacRae Halsey, known for her roles in shows like ‘General Hospital’ and ‘Gomer Pyle, USMC,’ has died at 88. She passed away on May 27, 2024, but the location and cause of death were not disclosed.
MacRae, who started her acting career in New York City, appeared in numerous popular TV shows over 25 years, including ‘The Andy Griffith Show,’ ‘Bonanza,’ ‘Gunsmoke,’ and ‘The Fugitive.’
Her film credits include ‘The Incredible Mr. Limpet’ and ‘The Conversation.’ She also worked as a drug and alcohol counselor in New York before moving back to her hometown in North Carolina.
Her husband, Charles Day Halsey, Jr., died before her, as did her brother and sister. She is survived by her five stepchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private memorial service and has asked for donations to be made to the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society or St. John’s Episcopal Church in her memory.
