A Canadian backbench MP has become the first from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party to call for his resignation following a major by-election defeat.
Wayne Long expressed the need for new leadership in an email to party members, citing voters’ clear desire for change after the Liberals lost a long-held seat in Toronto.
Former party members and officials have also voiced similar sentiments, urging Trudeau to step down amid declining popularity and challenges on various fronts.
Despite calls for change, Trudeau has committed to remaining as leader, emphasizing the need for his team to deliver concrete progress for Canadians.
