eBay to Pay $3M Fine for Harassing Bloggers with Live Insects: Former Execs Sentenced to Jail
eBay executives, upset with a newsletter criticizing the company, harassed bloggers Ina and David Steiner by sending live spiders and cockroaches.
Former security director Jim Baugh and six associates intimidated the couple with disturbing acts, including sending live insects, a foetal pig, and a funeral wreath to their home.
eBay fired the involved employees, and in 2021, one was sentenced to 18 months in prison, while Baugh received nearly five years.
Allegedly pressured by former CEO Devin Wenig, Baugh’s lawyers claim he aimed to control the Steiners’ coverage.
eBay’s actions were called ‘absolutely horrific’ by acting Massachusetts US Attorney Josh Levy.
