Explosion at Sunday Mass in Southern Philippines Claims Four Lives

Four people lost their lives in a blast during a Catholic Mass at Mindanao State University’s gymnasium in Marawi.

The incident, possibly a revenge act by the Daulah Islamiyah-Maute Group, left 42 others with minor injuries.

The Philippine President condemned the attack as a ‘senseless and heinous’ act by foreign terrorists. Photos revealed scattered chairs and minor damage to the gym.

With Advent starting, Sunday Masses drew larger crowds. Mindanao, home to the Muslim minority, has faced insurgency; the university expressed deep sorrow and heightened security. Credit: BBC News.
