Relatives and devoted admirers gathered to bid a final farewell to the renowned singer and actress CoCo Lee at her funeral in Hong Kong on Monday. The event commemorated her illustrious career spanning decades, marked by numerous successful albums, films, and television appearances worldwide.
CoCo Lee, an accomplished artist fluent in multiple languages, and one of the pioneering Chinese vocalists to achieve recognition in the American mainstream, passed away earlier this month at 48 years old after a prolonged struggle with depression, as confirmed by her family.
Despite the scorching summer weather in Hong Kong, fans demonstrated their dedication by forming queues outside a funeral home, where both a private and public memorial service took place preceding her cremation. Dressed in somber attire, many held white flower bouquets as they patiently waited for hours, eager to bid a heartfelt farewell to their beloved icon.
Expressing gratitude for the attendees’ unwavering support, CoCo Lee’s elder sister, Nancy, shared a poignant quote from the star during the memorial service, which was also live-streamed online. She quoted, “My sister would often say this during her concerts: ‘You could have chosen to go anywhere, but today you chose to come here to be with me.'” Nancy Lee went on to convey her appreciation to all present, while also evoking memories of the singer’s radiant smile and compassionate nature.
Additionally, a video tribute showcased a constellation of celebrities and film directors who had collaborated with CoCo Lee throughout her illustrious career.
On the subsequent Tuesday, CoCo Lee’s cremation took place, with eight of her closest companions and colleagues shouldering the responsibility of escorting her body from the funeral establishment.
