Hillary Clinton recently spoke at an event in New York City, telling the BBC that Joe Biden made the right decision to step aside in the US presidential election after his poor debate performance against Donald Trump earlier this year.
She explained that Biden couldn’t bounce back after the debate and that stepping down was the best choice. According to Clinton, she had seen Biden just a week before the discussion and didn’t see any reason for him to step aside then, but everything changed after the discussion. BBC mentioned that this was a key moment in the election.
Clinton also pointed out that Democrats haven’t done a good job in addressing the economic concerns of Trump supporters, which is something the party needs to improve.
According to BBC, Clinton said the upcoming election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is extremely important, not just for the US but for the world. She said the future of democracy is at risk and called on Harris to defeat Trump in order to “break the fever” that he has caused in the political system.
BBC also reported that Clinton, while promoting her new memoir, emphasized the huge differences between Harris and Trump’s visions for the country. She warned that this election would have global consequences, such as whether the US will continue supporting Ukraine or find solutions in the Middle East. BBC noted that Trump has already indicated he might cut aid to Ukraine.
In the interview, Clinton also criticized Trump’s plan to deport one million immigrants if elected. Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, had earlier mentioned this plan in August. BBC highlighted that Clinton warned of harsh actions by Trump, including deploying military forces to enforce these deportations.
BBC reported that when Clinton was asked why Trump has such strong support, she said many of his supporters feel ignored or believe the economy isn’t working for them.
She admitted that the Democratic Party hasn’t been effective in communicating how they are addressing these concerns, and she accepted her part in that responsibility.
Clinton also said that in today’s social media age, there is pressure on politicians to be entertaining or outrageous, which makes it harder to do the actual work of getting things done.
According to polling shared by BBC, Trump is currently seen as more trusted on the economy, which is the most important issue in the election.
