A Chinese woman named Yaqi X, aged 38, has been arrested in Leipzig, Germany, for allegedly spying on a key airport used by the German defense industry. German prosecutors believe she shared sensitive information about flights, passengers, and military cargo with Chinese intelligence while working for a logistics company at Leipzig/Halle Airport. This airport is vital for transporting defense equipment, especially to Ukraine.
Prosecutors claim that Yaqi X passed on information to another suspect, Jian G, who was arrested earlier this year. Jian G had worked as an aide to a member of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the European Parliament. His role included gathering intelligence on Chinese dissidents in Germany, and he also reportedly shared information with Chinese spies about the European Parliament.
Yaqi X has been remanded in custody, and her home and workplace were searched by authorities. The investigation suggests she was active in espionage from August 2023 to February 2024, specifically targeting a German arms company, which sources have identified as Rheinmetall. This firm has played a significant role in supplying military equipment to Ukraine.
This case is part of a broader issue of espionage, with connections to the earlier investigation of Jian G, highlighting concerns about foreign influence and spying activities in Germany.
