Chinese businessman Guo Wengui, who lives outside China, has been found guilty in a US court for defrauding his online followers in a billion-dollar scam.

He faces sentencing in November and could receive a lengthy prison term.

Guo, also known as Miles Guo or Miles Kwok, raised over $1 billion from followers for investment and cryptocurrency schemes, using the funds to support a lavish lifestyle.

His political activism and ties to prominent US figures garnered him a large online following, mainly among Chinese expatriates.

Despite his defense portraying him as a critic of China’s government, the prosecution emphasized the financial harm inflicted on his followers.
