Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his longtime spouse Sophie Grégoire have revealed their separation via social media. In parallel statements posted on their individual Instagram accounts on August 2nd, Trudeau, aged 52, communicated the news initially in English and subsequently in French. He informed his followers, “Hello everyone, Sophie and I want to inform you that following numerous heartfelt and challenging discussions, we have arrived at the choice to end our relationship.”

“We maintain our strong familial bond, characterized by profound affection and regard for one another, as well as for the legacy we have constructed and will keep constructing,” he further conveyed. “In consideration of our children’s welfare, we kindly request that you honor our need for privacy.”

“With gratitude,” the communication came to an end.

Trudeau, who assumed the role of Prime Minister in 2015, has been in a marital partnership with Grégoire for 18 years since their wedding in 2005. The couple has three children in their family: two sons named Xavier (aged 15) and Hadrien (aged 9), along with a daughter named Ella-Grace (aged 14).

After Trudeau and Grégoire made personal declarations, the Canadian Prime Minister’s office officially conveyed the information to PEOPLE magazine. They issued a statement affirming that the couple has “formally entered into a legally binding separation arrangement.”

They have taken every necessary lawful and moral measure in their process of separation, and this commitment to responsible actions will persist in the future,” the declaration further conveyed. “They uphold their strong familial bond, and Sophie and the Prime Minister are dedicated to nurturing their children within a secure, affectionate, and cooperative atmosphere.”

The announcement also highlighted that “Both guardians will consistently be actively involved in their children’s upbringing,” and that “The Canadian public can anticipate frequent sightings of the family in each other’s company.”

The family has plans to go on vacation together starting next week.
