Cameroon President’s Daughter Sparks Controversy with Same-Sex Relationship Post

The daughter of Cameroon’s president, Brenda Biya, has stirred debate by sharing a photo on Instagram where she kisses Brazilian model Layyons Valença.

This post has generated mixed reactions in a country where same-sex relationships are illegal, carrying penalties of up to five years in jail. Brenda Biya, known as King Nasty in her music career, did not explicitly define her sexuality in the post but later shared an article from Le Monde suggesting she had “come out”.

While praised by some for potentially advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, she also faced backlash from social media users in Cameroon with homophobic remarks.

The incident has highlighted broader issues of LGBT rights in Cameroon, where such acts remain deeply taboo and legally condemned.

Human rights groups have consistently criticized Cameroon’s laws as discriminatory, calling for urgent reforms to protect the rights of all citizens regardless of sexual orientation.
