UK Teen Missing for 6 Years in France Reunites with Family: Mystery Surrounds Disappearance
British teenager Alex Batty, missing since 2017, has returned to the UK after being found in France. The 17-year-old, who vanished with his mother and grandfather during a Spanish holiday, was discovered near Toulouse. His mother, lacking guardianship, remains unlocated.
Greater Manchester Police is yet to determine the circumstances of his disappearance and whether a criminal investigation will follow.
A motorist found Alex in the French Pyrenees foothills, leading to a reunion at Toulouse airport. Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle emphasized the need to speak with Alex at his pace to decide on potential criminal investigation.
Living a nomadic lifestyle, Alex reportedly stayed in spiritual communities with his family. He went missing after a Marbella holiday, and details disclosed by French authorities remain unconfirmed.
Residents in the Pyrenees revealed Alex’s stay at a guesthouse, noting his decision to leave when his mother wanted to go to Finland.
Found after wandering for four days, he used a driver’s phone to contact his grandmother. She expressed relief and requested privacy for the family’s comforting reunion.
