‘Beloved Husband, Father, Coach, and Friend.’

The sports world is mourning a legend.

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, news broke that famed college basketball coach Bob Knight passed away. He was 83 years old.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family,” a statement provided by Knight’s loved ones noted. “We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored.”

The note continued, “We will continue to celebrate his life and remember him, today and forever as a beloved Husband, Father, Coach, and Friend.”

The update signed off with, “In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Coach with a memorial contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association or Marian University.”

Knight—who was nicknamed “The General” after a competitive coaching strategy he perfected at the United States Military Academy and later brought to the Indiana University Bloomington’s Hoosiers—famously nabbed 902 NCAA Division I men’s college basketball game wins.

This story is still developing…
