Avocado Toast Pioneer Bill Granger Passes Away at 54
Renowned Australian chef Bill Granger, known as the “godfather” of avocado toast, has died at the age of 54 in a London hospital on Christmas Day.
The self-taught cook from Melbourne gained global acclaim as a restaurateur and food writer, leaving a lasting impact on breakfast culture.
Granger’s sunny corner cafe, Bills, achieved fame for simple yet delightful dishes like avocado toast and ricotta pancakes.
His influence extended worldwide with cafes in Japan, Korea, and London under the Granger & Co. brand. Celebrities and peers, including Hugh Jackman and Jamie Oliver, paid tribute to Granger’s kindness and culinary innovation.
Granger is survived by his wife and business partner, Natalie Elliott, and their three daughters.
