20 die after crane collapses in India
The crane collapsed onto substantial concrete slabs, causing debris to crash down while construction workers were present on the highway, as reported by India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Late on Tuesday, the NDRF announced that they had retrieved 20 bodies and transported three injured individuals to the hospital.
A representative from the Thane police control room stated that among the casualties, at least five were engineers.
Response teams comprising members from the NDRF, fire department, and police quickly arrived at the scene. They employed cranes to clear away rubble and extract individuals who were trapped.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his sympathies through a message on the social networking site X, which was previously recognized as Twitter.
Expressing sorrow over the unfortunate incident in Shahapur, Maharashtra, the office of the prime minister conveyed, “I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families of the victims.”
The authorities have announced their commitment to offer financial aid, with a sum of 200,000 rupees ($2,432) for the families of the deceased and 50,000 rupees ($608) for those who sustained injuries.
