Former Chinese Football Association President Receives Life Sentence for Bribery
Chen Xuyuan, former head of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), has been given a life sentence for bribery, reports state media in China.
He admitted to accepting bribes totaling $11.2 million. President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign has targeted various sectors, including sports.
Chen’s trial revealed his illicit actions from 2010 to 2023, including when he led the Shanghai International Port Group. Three other football officials received prison terms ranging from eight to 14 years.
This case highlights ongoing corruption issues in Chinese football, despite efforts to improve the sport’s reputation.
