A South Korean-flagged tanker, the Keoyoung Sun, capsized off the west coast of Japan, prompting a rescue operation.

Eight sailors have been saved, but three remain missing. The ship overturned near Yamaguchi prefecture after the crew sought help due to stormy weather.

Japanese coast guard teams rushed to the scene to assist. Details about the ship’s cargo are not yet known.

Described as an “oil/chemical tanker,” the vessel was anchored during the storm. The rescue effort is centered around Shimonoseki city.

Reports indicate the crew comprises two Koreans, eight Indonesians, and one Chinese citizen.
