Hong Kong just made a new law called Article 23. It’s supposed to keep the city safe, but some people worry it will take away their freedoms.
This law makes things like interfering from outside or starting a rebellion against the government illegal, with punishments as serious as life in prison.
It was approved really quickly by the leaders who support China.
This law builds on another one China made earlier, which already makes things like breaking away from China or working with foreign powers against China illegal.
But some people are scared. They say this new law is too vague and could lead to innocent people getting in trouble.
For example, one guy worries that just talking about work with friends might be seen as sharing secrets and get him arrested.
Another person is concerned that even working with international companies could put them at risk.
People are also upset because they didn’t get much chance to talk about this law before it was passed. It happened much faster than when they tried to do this before in 2003.
The government says this law is only for a few bad people, not everyone. They say you won’t get in trouble unless you’re deliberately trying to hurt the country.
But some folks still worry about what this could mean for Hong Kong’s future.
