President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has instructed security forces not to pay any ransom for the release of nearly 300 kidnapped students and staff from a school in Kaduna state.
Instead, he emphasized the importance of rescuing the victims without giving in to the demands of the kidnappers.
This directive comes amidst a series of mass kidnappings in the country, highlighting the ongoing challenge of insecurity. Despite demands for ransom from the kidnappers, Tinubu remains firm in his stance against negotiating with them.
While some hostages have been released following negotiations, the government denies making any ransom payments, in line with a law passed in 2022 banning such payments.
This situation underscores the difficulties faced by Tinubu’s administration in addressing the issue of insecurity in Nigeria.
