Google has agreed to settle a $5 billion lawsuit in the US, accused of invading users’ privacy by tracking them even in “private mode.”
The lawsuit claimed that Google collected data on users’ browsing activity without proper consent, turning it into a massive repository of personal information.
The settlement terms were not disclosed, but a formal agreement is expected by February 2024.
Google argued it was transparent about data collection, even in private mode, stating it helps site owners assess content performance.
This follows increased scrutiny on big tech, with Google facing multiple legal challenges.
