Initially described by his publicist as a result of a ‘brief illness,’ further details reveal he battled lung cancer after being diagnosed just a few months ago.
Jennifer Allen, the actor’s publicist, confirmed the cause of death to The New York Times, disclosing Braugher’s struggle with lung cancer.
Despite quitting smoking years ago, the former smoker faced this tragic health challenge.
Braugher’s illustrious career included an Emmy-winning role in ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ and nominations for 11 Emmys overall, winning two.
His notable film debut was in the Oscar-winning ‘Glory’ in 1989, and he showcased his talent in various TV series like ‘Gideon’s Crossing,’ ‘Law & Order,’ ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’ and more.
Beyond his acting career, Braugher’s voice graced the Netflix animated series ‘BoJack Horseman.’ He is survived by his wife, actress Ami Brabson, and three sons, Michael, Isaiah, and John.
