Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently said that the “killing of women, children, and babies” in Gaza needs to stop. This is his strongest criticism of Israel since the conflict with Hamas began over a month ago. While Canada acknowledges Israel’s right to self-defense, Trudeau, like the United States and other allies, is increasingly concerned about the rising death toll in Gaza. The conflict has resulted in a reported 11,000 deaths, according to local health officials.
I’m asking Israel to be very careful and not use too much force. Everyone around the world is watching this unfold on TV and social media. We’re hearing stories from doctors, families, survivors, and kids who’ve lost their parents,” Trudeau emphasized.
“People are witnessing the killing of women, children, and babies, and it has to stop,” he declared at a news conference in British Columbia. Additionally, medical staff at Gaza’s Al Shifa Hospital reported that 36 babies’ lives were at risk, with no clear plan for evacuation despite Israeli efforts to provide incubators.
Three out of the initial 39 premature babies have died because Gaza’s main hospital ran out of fuel for generators that were keeping their incubators running since the weekend.
Trudeau also mentioned that Hamas should stop using Palestinians as human shields and release all hostages. About 350 Canadians and their family members have been evacuated from Gaza.
Last week, Trudeau called for a significant break in fighting for humanitarian reasons, aiming to release hostages and deliver enough aid for civilians in need.
