The celebrity chef’s family confirmed the news of his passing in a statement.

Michael Chiarello, a famous chef and former TV star, has passed away at 61 years old. He died in a hospital in Napa, California, after suffering a severe allergic reaction. His family shared their sadness and mentioned his talent in cooking, creativity, and love for family. They also highlighted how he brought people together through delicious meals, creating cherished memories.

The family said they treasure the times they spent with him, both in his kitchens and in their hearts. They believe his memory will always be alive in the love he put into every meal and the enthusiasm he encouraged in all of us to enjoy life’s tastes.


Instead of sending flowers, Chiarello’s family prefers if people donate to Meals on Wheels. They also mentioned that his funeral will be a private event.

In 1987, Chiarello started his first restaurant called Tra Vigne in Napa Valley. As time went on, he opened many more restaurants all around California, mostly serving Italian-style food. He also got into making wine in 1999 with Chiarello Family Vineyards, and later started his own brand called Napa Style.

His television career began with his first series, Season by Season, which ran on PBS in 2000. After hosting two more series with the network, Michael Chiarello’s Napa and Michael Chiarello’s Napa: Casual Cooking, he moved to Food Network for Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello, which premiered in 2003. The following year, he also premiered NapaStyle on the Food Network’s sister network, Fine Living Network.

The late chef made many appearances on other popular shows as well, such as ChoppedTop ChefUnique Eats, and more, and in 2011, he competed in season 4 of The Next Iron Chef

Chiarello is survived by his ex-wife, Eileen Gordon, and four children, AidanMargauxFelicia and Giana
