At least 21 people including two children have died after a bus crashed off a flyover near Venice and caught fire, officials say.
A bus in Venice crashed and fell from a bridge. This happened in a place called Mestre, connected to Venice. Sadly, 21 people died, including five from Ukraine, one from Germany, and the Italian driver. The Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, called it a terrible tragedy.
The bus was being used to take tourists from Venice to a campsite nearby. This happened around 7:45 PM local time. Some reports say the bus ran on a type of gas and caught fire when it fell. The number of people who died might go up, according to the Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi.
At least 18 people were hurt, five of them seriously. There’s a special place at a nearby hospital with trained people to help the families of those affected. Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is keeping an eye on what happens and shared her condolences.
This is not the first time something like this has happened in Italy.
Back in 2013, 38 people died when a bus lost control and crashed in southern Italy. It hit other cars and fell off a high road.
