She was the only host of ‘The View’ unimpressed by the actor’s candid discussion.

Whoopi Goldberg made some fans of The View upset when she criticized Idris Elba for talking about going to therapy. This happened on the episode aired on Monday, October 2. They were discussing a clip from Elba’s interview on Annie Macmanus’ podcast where he said he’s been in therapy for a year. Elba explained that it’s because he has some bad habits, and his job sometimes encourages those habits. He mentioned being a workaholic, which isn’t good for his overall life.

Whoopi Goldberg’s co-hosts on the show really liked Idris Elba and praised his voice. But Whoopi, who is 67 years old, wasn’t as impressed. She prefers a simple and hassle-free morning with her cats asking for food. She mentioned that she doesn’t want any complications like someone being too busy to come home. This is because some people say Elba is so busy with work that he can’t make it home.

Navarro jumped into the conversation and commended Idris Elba, who is 51 years old and known for his role in “Luther,” for being open and trying to improve himself. She pointed out that it’s crucial because men tend to seek therapy and deal with mental health problems less often than women do.

Navarro added, “And Black and Latino men do it even less. So when a man, like John Fetterman in the senate or Idris Elba, uses their big platform to make it more accepted, that’s a positive thing.”

But Goldberg disagreed. She felt Elba’s interview gave a different impression. She said, “If I were his wife, I’d be really upset. Because essentially, he’s suggesting he needs therapy just to know how to come home. That’s a problem we should discuss privately, not share with everyone.

People on the internet got into a big argument about this.

One person on a platform called X, which used to be called Twitter, said, “Being addicted to work, alcohol, shopping, etc. are all important issues…” They also mentioned that Whoopi should relax a bit.

Someone else pointed out, “Did you notice that when it’s a man’s issue, Whoopi made it about herself?

I don’t understand why people are criticizing Idris for getting help with his work addiction,” a person on YouTube said. “Isn’t trying to improve yourself something we should applaud?”

“I don’t agree with Whoopi. She didn’t understand. He’s in therapy because he WANTS to spend more time with his family and knows he has a mental health issue holding him back,” another person explained.

However, some people seemed to agree with Goldberg’s viewpoint.

The most popular comment on YouTube said, “I wish they had more time to talk about Whoopi’s point at the end, because that was interesting.”

Another person added, “I think Idris might have deeper problems than just working too much. We should look into why he finds so much satisfaction in work that he’s okay with neglecting other important relationships. Is he also afraid of committing? I agree with Whoopi that it must be tough for his wife to hear him say that. Sunny’s view seems a bit shallow; being married to someone good-looking, successful, but emotionally and physically distant is hard and can lead to divorce.
