Dan Wootton got in trouble at GB News because of what Laurence Fox said about reporter Ava Evans. Now, he’s suspended.
The TV channel GB News suspended Laurence Fox first, because he made rude comments about PoliticsJOE’s Ava Evans during a live show. Ava Evans told the BBC that these comments made her feel really awful.
Dan Wootton, who hosts a show on GB News, said sorry and admitted he should have stopped Laurence Fox from saying those things during the interview. GB News called the insult completely unacceptable and is investigating the matter.
Laurence Fox was a guest on Dan Wootton’s show, and when asked about Ava Evans, he said things like, “No decent man would want to be with her” and made some offensive remarks about feminism. He even used inappropriate language.
Later, Laurence Fox said on social media that the media was too focused on trying to silence him for what he said.
Ava Evans had been on BBC Politics Live and talked about mental health issues, especially for men. She disagreed with the idea of having a special minister just for men’s mental health, saying it might make women feel left out. She later said she spoke too quickly and that she was interested in a minister who would focus on young men’s mental health.
‘Wotton phoned me repeatedly’
Ava Evans, the reporter, felt really awful and gross after Laurence Fox’s comments. She even received threats from people who support Fox. They were also judging her looks online. The editor of GB News said sorry to her for what Fox said, and they suspended Dan Wootton too. Ava wants Conservative MPs to stop going on GB News because it makes her uncomfortable.
She worries if they support those views; can she trust them in parliament? Wootton kept calling her after the incident, but she didn’t want to talk to him. He said he’s sorry and will respect her choice if she doesn’t want to hear from him.
Laurence Fox, an actor, shared a screenshot on Twitter, hinting at a conversation with Wootton after the show. He also said he had talked with the channel beforehand about what he planned to say. Many people, including Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho, criticized Fox’s remarks, calling them very bad. Another presenter on GB News, Richard Tice, said Fox’s comments were not right and he should say sorry to Evans. Ofcom, the TV regulator, mentioned they got complaints about Fox’s comments and will look into it.
