Two big storms called tornadoes hit two cities in eastern China. These cities are in Jiangsu Province. Ten people lost their lives because of this. This is another very bad weather event in China. They already had lots of rain, causing floods and very hot weather.
On Tuesday, a powerful tornado hit Suqian City. It killed five people and hurt four others very badly. A different, even stronger tornado hit Yancheng, which is southeast of Suqian and north of Shanghai, China’s biggest city.
This one also caused five people to lose their lives and four others to get minor injuries. A lot of people had to move from their homes, and many houses were broken because of the storms.
Tornadoes don’t usually happen in Jiangsu in September. But because it’s been hotter lately, unusual tornadoes have happened. Meteorological experts say this.
Scientists believe that unless we stop using fossil fuels that make the Earth hotter, we will have more and worse extreme weather events.
