People are saying that China’s Defense Minister, Li Shangfu, can’t be found. Some think this means he might have lost his job or been taken away by the authorities. This worry began when the US Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel, mentioned that it seems like important people in China’s government are disappearing one by one, similar to a mystery novel. First, Foreign Minister Qin Gang wasn’t seen, then the commanders of the Rocket Force, and now Defense Minister Li Shangfu hasn’t been seen in public for two weeks.
Li Shangfu, China’s Defense Minister, was last seen on August 29 speaking at a meeting about China and Africa in Beijing. The US Ambassador also mentioned Qin Gang, the previous Foreign Minister, who hasn’t been seen in public since June 25. In July, Wang Yi became the new Foreign Minister. Chinese media says that the leaders of the Rocket Force, Gen. Li Yuchao and his deputy Liu Guangbin, were replaced and haven’t been seen in public for a long time.
