Big Relief for Commuters! GPRTU Slashes Transport Fares by 15% Starting May 25 – Here’s Why
Great news for all passengers! The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has finally listened to the cries of the people. After a crucial meeting with the Transport Minister, they’ve agreed to cut transport fares by 15% starting Saturday, May 25, 2025.
Why the Big Drop?
According to MyJoyOnline, this decision comes after fuel prices fell by 18%. Normally, transport operators only reduce fares by a small fraction when fuel gets cheaper. But this time, in a rare move, the GPRTU decided to pass on more savings to passengers.
Abbas Ibrahim Moro, the Union’s spokesperson, told MyJoyOnline:
“We usually reduce fares by just one-third of the fuel price drop, but this time, we’re giving passengers a bigger break—15% off!”
A Warning to Greedy Drivers
Some drivers might try to ignore this fare cut, but the GPRTU has a strong message for them: Comply or face the consequences!
“If your Union has decided, you have no choice but to obey,” Moro warned.
Will Spare Parts Dealers Also Reduce Prices?
The GPRTU is also calling on spare parts sellers to lower their prices. “We took this step even before other costs dropped. Now, we expect the spare parts market to do the same,” Moro added.
What This Means for You
- Cheaper rides from May 25
- More money in your pocket for other needs
- No excuses—drivers must follow the new fares
This is a major win for everyday Ghanaians struggling with high transport costs. Kudos to MyJoyOnline for bringing us this breaking update!
