Delta Airlines is blaming CrowdStrike for a major global network outage that cost them at least $500 million.
This outage led to thousands of flight cancellations and impacted 1.3 million passengers. Delta says CrowdStrike’s faulty software update, which also affected millions of Windows devices, was the main cause of their disruptions.
CrowdStrike denies full responsibility, stating that flight issues persisted even after other airlines had resumed normal operations.
Microsoft, which was also involved due to its Office365 being affected, says Delta’s outdated IT systems contributed to the problems.
Delta’s CEO called the situation “unacceptable,” and the airline has hinted at legal action against both CrowdStrike and Microsoft.
Meanwhile, Delta is facing a class-action lawsuit from passengers and additional legal trouble for not adequately compensating them.
CrowdStrike and Microsoft both plan to defend themselves strongly against these claims. The dispute highlights the challenges of relying on technology and the ripple effects when systems fail, as noted by BBC.
