South Africa’s main coalition partners are in a serious disagreement shortly after agreeing to share power.
President Cyril Ramaphosa accuses Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen of trying to create a “parallel government,” which he claims violates the constitution.
This dispute, marked by a heated letter from Ramaphosa to Steenhuisen, has caused turmoil, impacting markets amid efforts to form a unity government.
The ANC and DA are supposed to be dividing cabinet positions, but tensions have escalated over disagreements on appointments, potentially jeopardizing the coalition’s stability.
