Perdue has recalled more than 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken due to concerns that the products may be contaminated with metal.

According to Parade, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the recall on Friday, August 16. The affected products include Perdue chicken breast tenders, Perdue Simply Smart gluten-free breaded chicken nuggets, and Butcher Box organic gluten-free chicken breast nuggets, all with a “best if used by” date of March 23, 2025.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) confirmed that these products have the plant code P-33944 on the packaging and were sold nationwide in stores and online.

Perdue decided to voluntarily recall these items out of caution after it was found that thin metal wires had accidentally gotten into the manufacturing process.

Though there have been complaints from customers about metal pieces in the products, no injuries have been reported, Parade shared.

The FSIS is urging consumers to check their freezers for the recalled items and not to eat them. Instead, people should contact Perdue Foods for a refund at 866-866-3703.

If anyone is worried about getting sick or hurt, they should reach out to their healthcare provider, as Parade emphasized in their report.
